Karan Johar is an Indian film director, producer, costume designer, actor, screenwriter and television personality who works in Hindi cinema. He was born on 25 May 1972 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India to a father Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He started his career in the entertainment city as an actor. In 1989, Johar played the role of Shrikant in Doordarshan serial Indradhanush.
In 1995, he began his career in the film industry, first, he worked as an assistant of director Aditya Chopra the in the film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. For some time, he followed numerology, making film titles in which the letter of the word began with ‘k’. In 1998, Karan made his first film as a director of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film became a blockbuster at the box office by which he won the Best Director and Best Screenplay Award at Filmfare Awards. Then he released his two ensemble drama film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001 and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2006. Both films were successful in the overseas market.
He next worked on his social drama film My Name is Khan in 2010. By this film, he won his second Filmfare Award for Best Director. In addition of films, he also hosts a television talk show Koffee with Karan. He appeared as a judge on reality shows including India’s Got Talent, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and India’s Next SDuperstars.
